Workshop on Science, Technology, and innovation Policies and Productivity Enhancement

From November 27th to November 30th, 2018, the Directorate for Standard, Metrology and Quality held the APO International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Policies and Productivity Enhancement at Hoa Binh Hotel (No. 27 Ly Thuong Kiet Kiet, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi).

Attending the workshop were Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Standard, Metrology and Quality, Ms. Ngo Thu Huong, Program Officer Research and Planning Department, APO, Dr. Youngrak Choi Senior Research Fellow, STEPI, Korea and Dr. Vu Minh Khuong, Associate Professor Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore as well the participation of 23 representatives coming from 13 APO member countries.

At the opening, on behalf of STAMEQ, the host of this workshop, Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, Deputy Director General of STAMEQ would like to extend to all delegates his warmest welcome to Hanoi, Vietnam and his thankfulness for their participation in the workshop this week. He also affirmed that scientific advances, technological changes, and innovative value creation have been important drivers of productivity and economic and those policies must be well designed to contribute their full economic potential. Therefore, adopting forward-looking perspectives in science, technology, and innovation (STI) design and analysis has been crucial for governments.

Moreover, STAMEQ Deputy Director General emphasized that this workshop were a good forum to share the key trends impacting STI, to review good practices in formulating and implementing STI policy for improved national productivity performance including the society 5.0 from Japan, Korean Innovation model and to disseminate the findings of the analysis of collaborative linkages among STI actors in APO member economies.

In the conference, Dr. Youngrak Choi, Senior Research Fellow, Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), Korea shared the importance of forward looking STIP design and KIST Case to confirm the role of the Science and Technology Innovation Policies in Korea. Besides, experts, professors from 13 countries discussed and analyzed the trends, impacts, and importance of STIP, the direction of growth, competitiveness and productivity of the Asia Pacific economy.
