Workshop on Digital Standards and Digital Transformation in Standards

On November 29, 2022, within the framework of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding between the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) and the British Standards Institute (BSI), the General Department collaborated with the British Standards Institute to agree organize a Seminar on Digital Standards and Digital Transformation in standards for the purpose of sharing, contributing knowledge, updating information on standard development and application, standardization strategy and digital standard transformation of the world and Vietnam.

Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, Acting Deputy Director General, on behalf of the General Department, thanked BSI for always accompanying and supporting Vietnam during the past time and for spending a lot of time and effort to co-organize this workshop.

Mr. Scott Steedman, BSI’s General Manager of Standards also highly appreciated STAMEQ’s efforts during the pandemic up to now. He acknowledged that, during the cooperation process, Vietnam has taken the right approach and actively developed in the field of standardization. He looks forward to continuing to cooperate with STAMEQ so that the two sides can develop together and reap more results in the near future.

Officials from the Department of Standards and the Vietnam Institute of Standards and Quality shared an overview of the standardization strategy that Vietnam is developing as well as digital standards in digital transformation. To catch up with advanced countries, the digital transformation in standards is an inevitable trend and an urgent need for Vietnam to compete, innovate, and improve the health and safety of the nation. , as well as enhancing global trade, providing development directions, and participating in the development of international standards.

Experts from BSI also had a presentation and shared their experiences in building digital standards and digital transformation in British standards. The experts also shared about BSI’s digital standards program, their research and exploration in digital transformation within standards and discovering improvements in the use of digital standards.

At the end of the workshop, Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, Acting Deputy Director General of the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality highly appreciated the quality of BSI’s researches.  Mr. Scott Steedman expressed his desire to have a face-to-face meeting with STAMEQ during his upcoming business trip to Vietnam and he also hoped that this would be an opportunity for the two sides to strengthen cooperation, and at the same time, the two sides had can sign a new Memorandum of Understanding with new contents proposed by the two sides in the implementation of cooperation.
