Vietnam Metrology Institute hosted the 6th Meeting of the Expert Group on Metrology (EGM-6)

On September 16 and September 17 2019, the Vietnam Metrology Institute (VMI) was proud to host the 6th Meeting of the Expert Group on Metrology (EGM-6) in Ha Long, Quang Ninh.
This is an important event held annually by 10 National Metrology Institutes in ASEAN. At this year’s conference, member countries would discuss cooperation strategies and measurement decisions that affect science, technology and innovation, which are key to sustaining economic growth, strengthening community welfare and promoting integration in ASEAN. Sharing knowledge and competencies among ASEAN EGM members can lead to the best solution to national and individual metrology challenges.
The 6th Meeting of the Expert Group on Metrology hosted by VMI this year was also a part of the implementation of the 996 project on Metrology approved by the Prime Minister on August 10, 2018., thereby demonstrating the role and responsibilities of the National Metrology Institute (VMI) in the international arena, strengthening cooperative relationships with partners in the region and the world, contributing to the direction of to the goal of developing a comprehensive and modern national measurement infrastructure.

The Expert Group on Metrology is established in 2011, and is part of the Science and Technology Infrastructure and Sub-Committee Development (SCIRD), under the ASEAN Science and Technology Committee (The ASEAN COST), VMI is one of the founding members of ASEAN EGM.
Intending to develop and promote scientific measurement activities to firmly consolidate the quality infrastructure, ASEAN EGM has actively contributed to promoting the agendas of each ASEAN country, raising the contribution in global value chains and support innovation for ASEAN businesses.

ASEAN EGM has clear functions of scientific measurement such as determining measurement capabilities to meet the common priority needs of ASEAN countries and developing measurement sustainability; support and promote the exchange of expertise, experience and knowledge on metrological development between VMI within ASEAN, towards international integration of measurement and calibration capabilities – CMC; provide the necessary technical support for the development and application of measurement studies; raise awareness of the community and relevant agencies about the role and contribution of metrology and quality infrastructure in promoting competitiveness and social innovation; strengthen cooperation between ASEAN EGM members and between this group member and relevant regional and international agencies.
