This method was first applied by Toyota, under the circumstances, Toyota’s leaders wanting to improve product quality and reduce waste in production lines.

We can easily recognize a poorly managed company by the following features: There are many unnecessary things and they are not neatly arranged; Waste of time and effort searching that affects work efficiency; Office equipments, production equipments are not clean, there is a lot of empty spaces, high rate of broken machines; Unsafety workplace and many accidents and incidents; Poor working attitud; Many jobs have to be redone and lead to overtime. Therefore, implementing 5S is extremely necessary and important.

5S is a Japanese management (production) method, the basis for production management systems and philosophies such as TPS, TQM, and LEAN. According to the original Japanese, the 5 S letters in the 5S model stand for Seiri (Sort), Seiton (Set in Order), Seiso (Shine), Seiketsu (Standardize), Shitsuke (Self-awareness).

Determinations of the success of 5S: The continuous commitment and support of leaders; 5S begins with education and training; No one is an observer in 5S, everyone is participant; Repeat the 5S cycle to achieve higher standards.

According to Mr. Hung, 5S is applied successfully at the National Standards, Metrology and Quality Committee, it begins with the continuous commitment and support of leaders; The decision to establish 5S working groups; 5S begins with education and training; No one is an observer in 5S, everyone is participant; Repeat the 5S cycle to achieve higher standards.
