Strengthening long-term standardization cooperation between Vietnam and India

Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, Acting Deputy General Director, and representatives from the General Department of Standards, Metrology, and Quality recently held an online bilateral meeting with Mr. Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of the General Department of Standards and Quality. BIS and associates – Indian Standards.
On September 3, 2016, the STAMEQ (General Department) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of standardization and assessment with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Since then, the aforementioned MoU has served as the foundation for the implementation of cooperation activities between the two agencies in the fields of standardization and conformity assessment through the exchange of expertise, scientific information, and information. Training in science and technology helps to strengthen capacity and facilitates trade between the two countries.
During the meeting, Vietnam’s representative, Mr. Ha Minh Hiep, thanked BIS for its recent contributions to cooperation, training, and experience sharing activities with Vietnam.
Mr. Ha Minh Hiep also discussed the STAMEQ’s main objectives for 2025, including the plan to develop the National Standardization Strategy, review and amend the Law on Standards and Technical Regulations, and receive BIS support to strengthen Vietnam’s role in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Mr. Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of Indian Standards, welcomed Vietnam’s contributions and stated that sustainable development, the current standardization strategy, and data management are key topics for BIS in order to compete and not lag behind developed countries.
Through the exchange, the two sides agreed in the near future to jointly organize a workshop to share experiences on standardization conformity assessment in data management, orientation and India’s experience on this topic.
