Opening of the General Assembly of the Global Barcode Organization – GS1 in 2022

On May 24, 2022, in Brussels, Belgium, the International Barcoding Organization – GS1 held the GS1 General Assembly in 2022.
After two years of transitioning to an online organization due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, this is the first face-to-face conference for leaders of GS1 member organizations from various countries and regions.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh, Deputy General Director of the General Department of Standards, Metrology, and Quality (Ministry of Science and Technology), Mr. Bui Ba Chinh, Deputy Director in Charge of the National Barcode Center, and members of the GS1 Vietnam delegation attended the meeting.
Mr. Miguel Lopera, GS1 Global CEO and President, gave the opening remarks, welcome representatives from GS1 members who attended the event live and online. Mr. Miguel Lopera outlined a vision, priority strategy for GS1, and obstacles following the Covid-19 epidemic in his speech, highlighting member countries’ contributions and efforts to the execution. Registration platform, marketplace, healthcare sector, and 2D barcode (2D code) conversion are all part of GS1 global’s priority approach.
New members will be nominated during this meeting. GS1 Vietnam representatives and GS1 Global Leaders will attend the GS1 International Board of Directors meeting in the next years. Mr. Miguel Lopera, President of GS1, will step down after more than 20 years of service as the organization’s top executive.
Medals will be awarded to a number of member countries and territories whose founding years are even during the GS1 summit. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Standards, Metrology, and Quality, will represent GS1 Vietnam in receiving GS1’s global 25th anniversary award.
From May 24-26, 2022, the GS1 General Assembly will gather for three days.
