International standards aimed at Supporting Clean Energy Goals and Industrial Development in Vietnam

During 12 & 13th August, 2024, Commission for the Standards, Metrology and Quality of Viet Nam (STAMEQ) and UL Standards and Engagement (ULSE) successfully coordinated to organize the Conference ” Supporting Clean Energy Goals and Industrial Development in Vietnam through Standards” in Ho Chi Minh.
Electrification is a key national priority for Vietnam, playing an important role in supporting Vietnam’s commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net zero by 2050. At the same time, electrification can also bring new economic opportunities to Vietnamese industries, helping local companies and small and medium-sized enterprises transform from low value-added to high value-added, thereby improving people’s lives. Representatives of STAMEQ were Dr. Ha Minh Hiep – Acting Director-General and speakers attending the discussion sessions of the 2-day Conference. ULSE’s side was lead by Mr. Kolin Low – ULSE Regional Director.
In April 2023, STAMEQ and ULSE successfully organized the Conference “Supporting Clean Energy Goals and Development Industry in Vietnam through Standards” in Hanoi. The conference discussed the current context and opportunities in Vietnam and other countries, potential challenges hindering electrification progress in Vietnam, the role of standards in supporting Stakeholders work together to find reasonable solutions through sharing experiences and success stories around the world.
To support the participation of stakeholders in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces of Vietnam, STAMEQ and ULSE discussed and coordinated to organize a similar conference in Ho Chi Minh City in order to highlight the role of safety standards for lithium battery use and the transition to clean energy.
On the sidelines of the conference, a workshop with the participation of various speakers and experts from technical departments, research institutes, universities, related businesses… was organized to exchange information, experiences, as well as interactive connections between participants and speakers to share experiences and seek cooperation opportunities.
