Cooperation between the Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam and the Vietnam federation of commerce and industry to strengthen state management activities and support the Vietnamese business community

On the afternoon of 7th August 2024, at the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam (STAMEQ) on coordination and cooperation between the two sides to strengthen support for state management activities and support the Vietnamese business community to promote economic development, trade, science, technology and innovation in Vietnam.
These are practical activities to enhance the participation of enterprises and associations in the development and implementation of standards and technical regulations of Vietnam and foreign countries, helping to improve the quality of this work to eliminate obstacles and shortcomings, while supporting the provision of information for enterprises in the implementation of policies in production and business activities, contributing to improving the quality of Vietnamese products and goods, serving the goals of socio-economic development and international integration.
The content of the cooperation program between VCCI and STAMEQ focuses on the following three main issues: First, reviewing and evaluating the implementation of technical regulations in order to remove unnecessary obstacles to business operations and support enterprises in terms of domestic and foreign standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures.
Second, increase the participation of enterprises and associations in the activities of the Technical Committee for the development of National Standards, the technical committee for International Standards and the Council for the Assessment of National Technical Regulations developed by the Ministries of Sectors and Fields; identify group 2 products and goods and administrative measures proposed by the Ministries of Sectors and Fields.
Third, promote dissemination activities for domestic enterprises and associations to promptly grasp domestic legal regulations, technical requirements and those of target export markets that are currently and expected to be applied.
The signing ceremony is within the framework of the Workshop on the role of enterprises in the development and application of standards and technical regulations jointly organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the National Assembly’s Committee on Science, Technology and Environment. The draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Technical Standards and Regulations has been maprepared by the Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam – Ministry of Science and Technology, and is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for comments at the 8th Session. The draft Law is assessed to have amendments and supplements that may have a significant impact on the activities of organizations and companies that manufacture and trade goods and services.
This Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the presence of representatives of the National Assembly’s Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, members of the National Assembly, representatives of ministries, government agencies, representatives of business associations, companies as well as numerous news agencies and newspapers.
