Opening 26th annual meeting of Asia-Pacific Legal Metrology Forum
On the morning of November 7, the 26th annual meeting of Asia-Pacific Legal Metrology Forum was opened in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province.
The meeting was held by Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality( STAMEQ), people’s committee of Quang Ninh province and the Secretariat of APLMF.

The Asia-Pacific Legal Metrology Forum (APLMF) is a grouping of legal metrology authorities with 20 member countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (Ministry of Science and Technology) is the representative of Vietnam participating in APLMF since 1999.
APMLF’s objective is the development of legal metrology and the promotion of free and open trade in the region through the harmonisation and removal of technical or administrative barriers to trade in the field of legal metrology.
Measurement plays an important role in domestic and international economic activities. Legal metrology sets out the general rules to ensure the consistency and necessary accuracy of measurements with the least cost; ensure the accuracy of measurements and increase confidence in measurement results.
Annually, APLMF alternately holds an annual meeting in member countries to discuss the performance of working groups, the status of implementation and work plan of APLMF.
The 26th APLMF Forum and Working Group Meetings was held from Wednesday the 6th to Friday the 8th of November 2019 in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam with about 100 delegates representing of legal measurement organizations from 20 member countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The forum is also an opportunity for measurement agencies of the Asia-Pacific countries to share measurement management experience such as pattern approval on measuring instruments, OIML certificates, verification, testing and calibration of measuring devices…
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Tran Van Tung highly appreciated APLMF’s initiative and joint efforts in organizing this important event and affirmed that Vietnam would actively cooperate with members of the career development of the global measurement system in general and the legal measurement system of each economy in particular.
He also expected that the ideas and initiatives of representatives of member economies would make an important contribution to promoting cooperation, making our common goal a reality.
Delegates attending the 26th annual meeting of APMLF
On the sidelines of the Forum, representatives of Vietnam, General Director of STAMEQ, Mr Tran Van Vinh also had a direct discussion with APLMF President, Mr. Stephen O’Brien on enhancing cooperation and extensive participation of Vietnam on APLMF, challenges and orientations of measurement industry to develop the National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) and approach the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This is also one of the outstanding international cooperation activities in 2019 to implement the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 996/QD-TTg dated August 10, 2018 on “Strengthening and renovating measurement activities to support Vietnamese enterprises to improve their competitiveness and international integration in the period up to 2025, orientations to 2030”.
