Standards and the fourth industrial revolution
On the morning of October 10, 2018, Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) have celebrated the World Standards Day 2018, 14 October. Attending the ceremony were Director General of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality Mr. Tran Van Vinh; Deputy Director General of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology Mr. Ha Minh Hiep; leaders of units under The Ministry of Science and Technology, representatives from units of Science and Technology Department, representatives of Provincial Office, Head of National Standards Board, and along with enterprises, organizations.
The World Standards Day 2018 Theme was the 4th Industrial Revolutionary Standard and Revolution, highlighting the role of the 4.0 revolution, the standardization of technology 4.0, also emphasizing the rapid pace of change. However, the Fourth Industrial Revolution both brings immense opportunities and presents an array of economic and scientific challenges.
Opening the ceremony, Director General of Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality Mr. Tran Van Vinh emphasized the fundamental role of Standards in socio-economic in Vietnam. The Standard is not only protecting the benefits of consumers, it is also the basis, the orientation of technology which helps enterprises in their production business. Besides, Mr. Tran Van Vinh highly appreciated for the remarkable contributions of cadres of STAMEQ who working on standards field as well as expressed that they continually issues and applies new standards and joins in International Standards.

At the ceremony, Vice Director in charge of Institute for Standards, Metrology and Quality Mrs. Ngo Thi Ngoc Ha shared the Message of World Standards Day on 14 October, 2018 that just as standards were crucial during the First Industrial Revolution, they will also play a critical role in the Fourth. The Fourth Industrial Revolution refers to the emerging technologies, which are blurring the traditional boundaries between the physical, digital and biological worlds. This increased connectivity of people and things will impact the way we produce, trade and communicate, much like steam power transformed production methods and the way of life of many societies during the First Industrial Revolution.

During the ceremony, Delegates discussed and exchanged the speech of how to approach smart manufacturing from the side of standard, metrology and quality. On the other side, the responsibility of Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality for the Fourth Industrial Revolution was minimizing and modernizing the inspection procedures. Continue to build the Program of Improvement Quality of Products; to build the National Infrastructure Program (NQI) toward to the Fourth Industrial Revolution; Establish and submit to Prime Minister of the Social Republic of Vietnam to approve and implement “Project on enhancing and renewing activities of metrology to support for Vietnamese enterprises to improve their competitiveness, integration internationally for the period of 2025 -2030”. Establish projects, missions and technology solutions for the Fourth Metrology Industrial Revolution (Metrology 4.0), built up smart city, smart manufacturing, agriculture and high technology agriculture. Moreover, connecting and acquiring experiences from other countries in the region as well as internationally which related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Also in the celebration, representatives from units of STAMEQ, and some business representatives delivered their speeches on the Standards and the 4th Industrial Revolution, and the role of standards in other fields.
