STAMEQ signed MOU on cooperation with KOTRA
On 2nd March, 2016 in Hanoi, the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam (STAMEQ) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of standardization, technical regulations, metrology, conformity assessment and codes, barcodes.
Attending the signing ceremony were Mr. Tran Van Vinh - STAMEQ’s General Director, Mr. Jaehong Kim - KOTRA’s President, leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Korean Ambassador in Vietnam and representatives from relevant agencies of the two countries.
Founded in 1962, KOTRA is a government agency of Korea whose functions is to promote trade, business and investment abroad, provide research activities , deployment and support to partners all over the world.
According to the memorandum, the two parties agreed to cooperate and implement joint activities in the field of standardization, metrology, technical regulations, conformity assessment and codes, bar codes for the purpose of strengthening technical innovation, a common understanding of the regulations to promote business and trade between the two sides.
Another event held that morning was the ribbon-cutting ceremony opening the Vietnam-Korea FTA support center. The center aims to promote the content of the Vietnam-Korea FTA agreement (officially takes effect from 20/12/2015) and increase the utilization of the ASEAN-Korea FTA which will lead to an increase in trade between ASEAN and Korea. In recent years, the global economy witnessed a decline in growth causing a slowing down in the export rate of the enterprises worldwide. Within that context, Mr. Kim Jae Hong - KOTRA’s President said “the Vietnam-Korea support center is expected to help companies from the two nations apply the Vietnam-Korea FTA with flexibility and bolster their exports to China, the US and the EU.”
In an interview on the sidelines of the ceremony, Tran Van Vinh - STAMEQ’s General director said: "Vietnamese enterprises wishing to export to Korea are welcomed to contact and provide necessary information to STAMEQ. STAMEQ will then provide support, help to create favorable conditions and clarify the regulatory requirements in Korea, based on which enterprises will have access to the information needed to minimize time and cost when exporting to Korea. "
